Our guide brought us to Shyamji’s studio located down a dusty cow-path in Bhuj, the western part of the Kutch, India. Inside the family compound, women spun wool and cotton and dyers tended live vats of indigo buried in earthenware jugs submerged underground. The rhythmic ‘clack clack clack’ of the loom provided the soundscape. The main part of the throw is the natural wool color right off the sheep- a natural light greyish tan. The borders have woven patterns and stripes in a dusty rose, cream and charcoal. The hand wrapped fringe in burgundy, cream and grey.
