Please note: The February 2017 Yoga Retreat has just a couple of openings. Don't Delay. Sign up today!
Join local yoga guru, Kristina Ahern, for a yoga retreat in Guatemala at Villa Sumaya on Lake Atitlan in Northern Guatemala Feb 18th through Feb 25th, 2017. Villa Sumaya is located in an idyllic spot on the edge of Lake Atitlan, a volcanic crater & the deepest lake in Central America....some say it is the "most beautiful lake in the world”. In this land of ‘eternal spring’, the vegetation is lush and tropical and you will be just a short distance to the amazing and thriving textile tradition of Guatemala.
"The primary intention of this retreat is to nourish and replenish your body, heart and mind, while being surrounded by majestic views of three spectacular volcanoes, the waters of the breathtakingly beautiful waters of Lake Atitlan and lush tropical vegetation....weaving the very elements of Nature in your being”, says Kristina.
The schedule is set up so that you have one free day in the middle of the week to explore the culturally rich surrounding villages. You can meet some of the weavers, embroiderers and rug hookers that we have been working with for years. Many of the rug hookers who are part of Multicolores, the nonprofit that makes the hooked rugs we sell in our store, live in villages around Lake Atitlan. Kristina is graciously donating a portion of each registration fee to Multicolores.
"I give this in the spirit of generosity, appreciation for the local culture and to help support local artisans and organizations that work toward transforming the lives of Guatemalan women," explains Kristina.
And if you are a rug hooking enthusiast, you can stay on after the yoga retreat and attend the annual rug hooking tour sponsored by Multicolores where you will learn about rug hooking in Guatemala, connect with Guatemalan rug hookers and make your own rug using the the same
materials and design principles as the local women. Click here to learn more about the Multicolores Rug Hooking Tour.
This retreat is open to yoga practitioners of all levels. This is an ideal way to immerse yourself in practice as a beginner or to enrich and expand your existing yoga practice. "I have a well of knowledge and compassion that allows met to meet each participant with the respect and insight cultivated through more that 15 years of teaching," says Kristina. She has taught at Bluewater Yoga Studio in Red Wing for more than eight years.
