Artisan: Shakil Khatri Batik India

It’s speculated that batik, a dye process to print pattern on cloth involving hot wax, entered India through the port of Mundra, Gujarat via Africa. An interesting journey of a timeless and complex technique. In Mundra we found Shakil Khatri’s studio whose family has practiced this ancient craft for six generations. Working with Shakil, and choosing from hundreds of hand carved wooden block patterns, we made our selections, chose our colors and now offer these summertime beauties to adorn your bed.
