Boucherouite Rugs: Lively and Fresh

Posted by Angie Brown on 8th Apr 2017

When we are shopping at the souks in the medina, we are always looking for something just a little bit different, something we haven't seen before, something that looks fresh.  Here in Morocco we have found a group of weavers who make Bourcherouite knotted and flat weave rugs that are bright, happy and fresh.  The rugs are made from recycled fabrics that are mostly women's traditional dresses which are called jellabas.  We love the vibrant colors and the mix of shades.  The rugs feature traditional Berber motifs. Here in Morocco they use the pile side up in the winter and the pile side down in the summer.  These two sided rugs give you two completely different looks.  Regular cleaning is easy, just shake them.
