Baskets from the Ye'kwana indigenous people who live along an offshoot of the Orinioco river in southern Venezuela in the Amazon.  "Wuwa"  baskets are an hourglass shaped burden basket made by women. The only tool used to make the baskets is a knife for slicing and scraping the fibers of vines or palm leaves into perfectly even strips. These strips are dried and then dyed using a variety of leaves, roots and mud. Sturdy traditional basket used in everyday life by the Ye'kwana. One of a kind very large basket. A beautiful statement piece.
Size: 13.5 tall x 8.5" across near bottom x 12.5" wide at top.
$299.
Country of Origin: Venezuela.
