Boucherouite rugs from Morocco were an innovation that was born out of necessity. Starting in the 1960's wool became scarce and expensive for the women weavers in rural Morocco. They could not afford wool rugs for their own homes. So they used some wool, scraps and rags that they had available. Each rug is one of a kind.
This Boucherouite rug is handwoven a flat rag weaving and hand knotted with wool and fabric strips rather than just tufts of wool. The mix of textures is so soft to touch. Colors: dreamsicle orange, bright purple, olive, pale pink, blue green, dark eggplant and chalky ochre.
