Our guide brought us to Shyamji’s studio located down a dusty cow-path in Bhuj, the western part of the Kutch, India. Inside the family compound, women spun wool and cotton and dyers tended live vats of indigo buried in earthenware jugs submerged underground. The rhythmic ‘clack clack clack’ of the loom provided the soundscape. The main part of the throw are a variety of tones of dusty rose woven with a handspun sheep wool. The borders have woven patterns and stripes in blue grey. The hand wrapped fringe in pale indigo blue with a little dusty rose.
